The Weekly Wins: Making Life More Memorable

WRITTEN BY: Michelle Knight

This week the digital world, which is really just the world now, worked hard at making things a little cooler. Highlighting the top 10 VR games coming to PlayStation, PEG, Boaty McBoatyface, Twitter’s 10th birthday and another $6 million going into VR, things are about to get a little cray cray.

It’s officially the long weekend, get to the nearest tap and pour yourself a pint of the good stuff (and we’re not talking about water), then dive into the top digital marketing news in this week’s edition of The Weekly Wins.

1. Top 10 PlayStation VR Games

Check out this great review of the Top 10 PlayStation VR games coming soon. They explain the VR experience visually, highlighting all the things that work. It appears there’s something for everyone with games like Valkyrie, Golem, 100ft Robot Golf and Gran Turismo Sport. There’s no doubting the flight simulation experience is going to be incredible. We’re excited!

2. PEG

PEG creates the next generation of media celebs and allows marketers to find the best influencers for brand. They claim they are the easiest way to search and identify. No more time consuming searching for those celebs to give us the juice. It was founded in 2014 by 3 nerds (their words not ours) in London, UK. With a belief that independent video creators are the future of content they built PEG as a tool to help creators across the globe. Check it out.

"We champion creators. We build tech. We like pegs."

3. BOATY MCBOATYFACE

This was a team and Internet favourite. Meet Boaty McBoatyFace the new multi-million pound research vessel who earned its (possible) name by asking the Internet for ideas. The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) were behind the idea. However, the outcome could never have been predicted. Some other fun options were just as funny; It’s Bloody Cold Here, Usain Bolt, Ice Ice Baby and Notthetitanic.

"We would like the name to be inspirational and about environmental and polar science, to help us tell everyone about the amazing work the ship does."

4. TWITTER TURNS 10

This week Twitter celebrated their 10th birthday (feeling old!). To help harness its true growth check out this fun infographic, it compares 10-year old Twitter with 10-year-old Facebook with respect to active user base, revenue, profit and market capitalization. Twitter is a social media success story that inspired the beginning of many others. The overall consensus is that Twitter is never going to be a second Facebook, but that’s ok with us, we only really need one.

5. ANOTHER $6 MILLION FOR VR

Visionary VR is a startup that just raised $6 million in funding from DFJ, the Venture Reality Fund, BDM, Greycroft and others. They are in the process of building a content creation tool for VR that focuses on storytelling. According to CEO Gil Baron, “It’s VR story creation for everyone.” Visionary are still keeping their cards pretty close to their chest, but you can get a taste of what to expect in the Varitey article: ‘Virtual Reality Storytelling Startup Visionary VR Raises $6 Million’
